Revelator completed an industry first copyright API for Polaris Nordic providing the foundational framework for upgrading any CMO’s data management system on musical works.
In a world where we are facing increased competition for rights, it is of the utmost importance that we can prove to the rights holders that we are frugal and capable of joining forces to the benefit of our members and rights holdersCEO, Teosto
Polaris Nordic is an alliance of the three Nordic copyright collection societies Koda (Denmark), TEOSTO (Finland) and Tono (Norway) who are leading the way to the future of rights management. Together they are among the world’s most efficient and lean collecting societies representing more than 97,000 local and millions of foreign composers, lyricists, arrangers and music publishers.
When Polaris Nordic was founded in 2014, the work done on behalf of right holders by collecting societies in different territories was underpinned by complex IT systems that had been developed locally in spite of having largely the same functional requirements as well as a significant proportion of the same data.
Their vision was in developing and running a joint back-end system for music reporting and distribution of the revenues collected by the organisations. They sought to adapt collective rights management and licensing processes in the digital age as well as answer to the needs of the European Commission’s policy objectives on the digital single market and copyright.
We are thrilled to have enabled Polaris Nordic to transform their data management system on musical works and set a benchmark for how future CMO should leverage cloud technologies to enjoy operational efficiencyCEO, Revelator
A Turnkey solution
In 2018, Polaris partnered with Revelator, a market leader in cloud-based copyright and data services, to build a unique application to standardize the collection society’s publishing data model maximizing speed, efficiency and transparency of musical works, copyright information and royalties to songwriters, composers, and publishers.
Polaris Works API
The Polaris Works API provides the building block in upgrading the CMO data management system on musical works data, digital business processes and offers an easy way to query, access, display and use accurate metadata across their services.
The API was developed by Revelator on the Amazon Web Services cloud, making it easier for anyone to access accurate copyright data and enable rights holders to maintain accurate information across Polaris Nordic’s web or mobile applications, as well as encourage 3rd parties to create innovative solutions.
The launch of the API has given Polaris Nordic and its partners access to the broad international musical repertoire of Koda, TONO, and Teosto in a single, unified application production interface.
Using the latest serverless technologies on Amazon AWS enables us to deliver quasi-unlimited scalability, and allows us to focus on the business needs by tailoring the API to meet everyone’s expectations. In addition, we used GraphQL which gave us unprecedented flexibility in the presentation of data to any client of the API.CTO, Revelator
