How the Feature Works
Once a Top Fan Video is published, eligible viewers may receive special notifications and see the content appear within their YouTube Feed.
Fans can still interact with the content through comments, shares, and other engagement features inside YouTube.
If someone who is not considered a top fan receives a shared link to the video, they will not be able to watch the content.
At launch, Top Fan Videos cannot currently be scheduled in advance. Videos must be manually published at the desired time. YouTube says scheduling support is expected later in Q3.
How Artists Might Use It
One of the more interesting aspects of the feature is that YouTube is encouraging artists to use it for more casual and direct communication rather than polished promotional campaigns.
For some artists, that could mean sharing quick updates from the road, studio sessions, or music video shoots. Others may use the feature to preview upcoming releases, share alternate mixes, or invite fans to exclusive events before announcing them publicly.
The format also creates space for content that may not necessarily fit into a traditional public release strategy but still helps strengthen fan relationships between larger releases or campaigns.
For artists already active on YouTube Shorts, livestreams, or Community posts, Top Fan Videos feel like a natural extension of that more direct style of audience engagement. For more practical guidance on building a stronger YouTube presence, read our guide to Youtube Best Practices
