AI technology doesn’t need your approval to create content that looks like you.
For artists, that dramatcially changes the stakes. Your face can now be altered, replicated and distributed at scale, often without knowledge, let alone your permission.
To address this unauthorized use of your identity, YouTube has introduced Likeness Detection in YouTube Studio. This is a new tool that helps artists and their teams detect and manage content where their face appears to be altered or generated by AI.
The feature is currently in beta and available to Official Artist Channels.
What Does YouTube's Likeness Detection Do?
Likeness Detection feature helps artists and their teams find videos where their face may appear in AI-generated or altered content.
Once enabled, potential matches appear directly in YouTube Studio, where teams can review them and decide what to do next.
This includes:
- Identifying videos using an artist’s likeness
- Reviewing flagged content in one single place within YouTube
- Requesting removal if it violates YouTube’s privacy rules Requesting removal if the content is believed to violate YouTube’s privacy policies
- Submitting a copyright removal request if original copyrighted content has been used without permission

Why Does This Feature Matter
More control over your identity
Music rights have always focused on audio and video. AI introduces a new layer: identity.
This tool gives artists clear visibility into how their image is being used across the platform.
Faster response to AI content
Instead of relying on manual discovery, artists and their teams can now review potential matches directly within YouTube Studio and take actionearlier.
Protecting fan trust
AI-generated videos can look convincing, making it easier for misleading or unauthorized content to spread.
Having a way to detect and review this content helps artists stay in control of how they are represented.
What to Know Before You Start
- The feature is still experimental
- It currently detects visual likeness only
- Not all content will be removed after review
- It is managed at the individual artist level
