YouTube Content ID

YouTube’s automated content identification system for monetizing and protecting your music across user-generated videos.

Description

YouTube Content ID is an advanced audio fingerprinting system that enables rights holders to track, claim, and monetize their music across user-generated content (UGC) on YouTube. When your tracks are delivered to Content ID, YouTube creates a digital fingerprint, allowing automatic detection and monetization whenever your music appears in videos uploaded by other users.

YouTube Music is a streaming service for listeners to enjoy music, whereas YouTube Content ID is specifically designed for rights management and monetization. While YouTube Music connects your music to fans, Content ID ensures you can identify, protect, and claim revenue from your music when it is used in third-party videos.

Revelator allows seamless distribution of your music to both YouTube Music and YouTube Content ID, centralizing your management and revenue collection.

Key Features

Automatic Content Claims

Once your tracks are delivered to YouTube Content ID, the system immediately begins scanning every existing and newly uploaded video on YouTube. It prioritizes the most popular videos first, gradually scanning less popular content. This comprehensive process may take up to 6 months to fully scan YouTube’s extensive catalog, ensuring thorough identification and accurate monetization of your music.

Monetize User-Generated Content at Scale

Automatically claim and collect royalties from millions of user-generated videos featuring your music, significantly expanding your revenue streams without manual intervention.

Transparent Claim Notifications

When your music is identified and claimed, YouTube sends copyright claim notifications informing uploaders that your music is being monetized by Revelator on your behalf. These notifications confirm the system is functioning properly and that your royalties are being collected.

What Are the Requirements for YouTube Content ID?

To be eligible for YouTube Content ID, your tracks must meet these criteria:

  • Be original music for which you hold exclusive rights.
  • Not contain samples, beats, or instrumentals licensed non-exclusively.
  • Not include public domain or freely available content.
  • Not be marketed or available as “free to use” or production music.
  • Not originate from soundtracks, scores, or video game footage.
  • Be the original commercial release (remixes, live versions, instrumentals, karaoke tracks, covers closely resembling originals, or alternate versions are generally not eligible).
  • Be distinct and unique (generic sounds, white noise, nature recordings, meditation, sleep music, or overly common sound effects are not eligible).
  • Not include non-musical audio content (spoken-word, podcasts, audiobooks, speeches, comedy recordings, or prayers).

Only fully original and commercially released music can leverage YouTube Content ID for monetization and rights management.
